Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Disability Services to lead the operation, compliance, and quality assurance of OPWDD-funded programs. In this role, you will oversee residential and community habilitation services for individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring adherence to State and Federal regulations while driving high standards of care, staff development, and program integrity.

This is a leadership position requiring strong operational judgment, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple program sites, clinical teams, and interdisciplinary processes. The Director will play a critical role in shaping how we deliver services, supervise managers, and uphold the rights and well-being of the individuals we support.

Key Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in a related field, or Bachelor’s Degree with equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write, edit, and present information effectively.
  • Proven ability to train, mentor, and supervise staff at multiple levels of an organization.
  • Working knowledge of OPWDD regulations, waiver services, interdisciplinary processes, and quality assurance practices.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications and program documentation systems.
  • Valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures within the OPWDD framework.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year of social work or related human services experience preferred.
Role Responsibilities
  • Ensure ongoing compliance and quality assurance with all State and Federal regulations governing program operations.
  • Confirm written informed consent for medication is obtained prior to administration.
  • Maintain on-call availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and provide direct staff coverage when needed.
  • Review and approve employee leave requests.
  • Develop and update fire evacuation plans for residential programs in accordance with regulations and individual needs.
  • Review and approve petty cash documentation.
  • Attend monthly clinical and nursing meetings.
  • Participate in facility audits, develop plans of corrective action for deficiencies, and ensure timely follow-through.
  • Review punch details for managers, assistant managers, BIS, QIDP, clinical supervisors, and community habilitation supervisors.
  • Conduct in-service training for newly hired managers and assistant managers on agency policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Maintain contemporaneous waiver documentation for all waiver-enrolled individuals.
  • Review investigative reports and ensure all recommendations are completed within required timeframes.
